On average up to 18% of what we put in our red lid wheelie bin should be placed in the green lid wheelie bin, which is for all food scraps and garden waste.
By composting your food scraps via the green bin or composting at home, you can significantly reduce your climate change footprint.
Did you know?!
Why compost?
When organic matter breaks down in landfill, it produces greenhouse gases and liquids that are harmful to the environment and costly to manage. Let’s keep food and garden scraps out of our local landfill.
Reduce
emissions
Less waste in your red bin means more space in our landfills.
Reduce
landfill waste
Food and garden scraps are a valuable resource that can be transformed into nutrient-rich compost that is used in local gardens, parks and farms.
Reuse valuable resources
Your green bin is emptied weekly. When all your food and garden scraps are in your green bin, they will be emptied every week, reducing smells and pests around your home. This is especially helpful when we consume more food, like at Christmas time!
